While the Thomas Fire was ravaging Ventura County, destroying homes and seemingly out of control, BikeVentura called an emergency board meeting. We connected via our phones as some of us were miles apart, fleeing the area, or cut off from Ventura, we asked each other, “What can we do?” feeling at a loss for action. That feeling eroded quickly as we worked through a few ideas and ended up with one that we thought could help the most and help quickest – give a free BikeVentura membership to anyone that donates $50 or more to Thomas Fire Relief through our Website.
So, we set up the promotion, not really knowing what would happen – and within 24 hours BikeVentura raised over five-hundred dollars. The promotion continued through the month and on January 12th, we dropped off a check at the United Way of Ventura County for $720.
The relief efforts continue – we’re partnering with Giant Bikes to give over 200 free bikes to fire victims, and we are collecting names of families that are looking for kids’ bike as well.
You can drop off your tax-deductible bike donations at the Ventura Bike Hub during open hours: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 3-7pm, and Saturday 11am-3pm.
