What's Happening
On April 30, 2019, we officially became BikeVentura, as recognized by the State of California. Founded as VCCOOL more than a decade ago, we're proud to bear a name that truly suits our mission, and we are grateful for all the hard work that went into VCCOOL. This has been a long time coming from the pop-up HUBs in 2007 to the "new" shop at 490 N. BV Bikes Tour through Washington State and British Columbia!

What's Happening
This summer, a group of women supported by BikeVentura, embarked on a bike tour starting in Washington State and British Columbia, Canada.Their tour began on the Olympic Peninsula. Their first leg took them to Port Angeles, WA where they boarded a ferry to Victoria, BC. They rode North on Vancouver Island and ferried out to Salt Spring Island for few days before heading back to the USA via a Washington State ferry to San Juan Island. The trip was full of camping, coffee, bakeries and band practice. All of the members of the tour brought instruments strapped to their bikes!All of their bikes had either been refurbished and purchased at BikeVentura, or tuned up at the shop before the trip.

Aloha Bike Valet

What's Happening
On September 1st and 2nd, BikeVentura hosted bike valet services at Ventura's 13th annual Aloha Beach Festival. Sixteen stellar volunteers provided secure bike parking for almost 200 bikes! Festival vendors provided volunteers with free food and beverages as a "thank you!" Volunteers had a blast, met new people, and helped to reduce traffic and parking congestion! Talk about a win-win-win.

Member Focus: Dave Buttner & the Arthritis Bike Classic

Membership, What's Happening
September's member highlight is Dave Buttner. Dave is an avid cycler hailing from Port Hueneme and is gearing up to support the 2018 Arthritis Bike Classic-- California Coast Classic. Dave's favorite local stretch of road is, "from Mugu Rock to Neptune's Net; there is nothing like the ocean on one side and mountains on the other!"  Dave is a regular bike commuter averaging 2-3 days/week, 5 miles/day. His must-haves include a "front-white blinking light, a rear-red blinking light, helmet, cleats, and a vest." He is a strong believer in being predictable while on the roadway.  Dave is participating for his 9th year in the California Coast Classic! What's Happening
We can all agree that in Ventura, there are only a handful of days a year where you might think twice about biking because of the weather. But there could be a variety of other reasons you choose not to ride a bike: maybe your bike is uncomfortable,  or not suited to ride more than a few blocks. Maybe you wouldn’t know what to do if you got a flat tire, or other mechanical issues with the brakes or shifting. OR maybe you just don’t feel confident sharing the road with motor vehicles.
